There are different categories of fall protection which include fall arrest, suspension, positioning, and retrieval. There are set standards for each category which forms the functional system of each category. For the fall arrest systems are required when any worker is exposed to fall hazard. This type of fall includes any person falling from six feet or more from a working surface to lower level with some exceptions as well. It includes but is not limited to falling from ladders, steelwork or scaffolding as well.
Fall Arrest And Positioning
Proper use of fall arrest equipment is taught in fall protection training in bc that includes the use of body harness and connector as well as an anchor point. The positioning system allows the worker to learn how to sit back in a harness while they keep on working using both their hands. Since this method is not designed to arrest a fall, therefore, it should be used in conjunction with a fall arrest system.
Retrieval And Suspension
Retrieval and suspension is an important part of confined space training in bc which is also known as a rescue plan. This essentially involves the post fall scenario where a strategic plan must be in place for retrieving the person who has fallen. Suspension training is to provide to allow hands-free work environment to the worker. Used extensively by the window washing and painting industry, a fall arrest system must be used alongside it for ultimate safety. Nowadays, technology is extensively used to minimize the risk of falling and therefore, proper training must be ensured.
